The Yorkie Shih Tzu is a popular Shih Tzu mix, also known as the Shorkie Tzu.
The Shorkie Tzu's weight ranges from 4-16 pounds and they are 6-11 inches tall.
The Shorkie Tzu comes in many colors such as chocolate, red, black, gold and black with tan. The Shorkie's coat is long and silky. They are great for individuals that suffer from allergies since they shed little to no hair.
The Shih Tzu Yorkie mix requires daily to weekly combing and brushing. The Shorkie can be given the summer cut to reduce grooming maintenance but if you are wanting the Shorkie Tzu to have a top knot, then the hair on top of the head will need to be kept long.
The Yorkie Shitzu loves companionship and they also make great, little guard dogs. Several owners have commented on how their pet is always sitting on their feet or chest, and just loves to cuddle.
Lots of patience is a must when it comes to training and housebreaking these designer dogs since they can be stubborn and have an independent streak. But this breed is smart. It also loves to please its caring owners and will do so for life.
They are often known for their energetic personalities. One owner described her yorkie tzu as loving her walks every day and that she sometimes runs like a freight train. Another says his dog loves playing with other dogs and often wears them out! They can also be barky like many Yorkies, so may not be ideally suited to an apartment.
They are great with children. However, it is not uncommon for these dogs to be aggressive to strangers or to other dogs, so make sure you do some socialisation during puppy training. The average life expectancy is 14-19 years.
