Tongue hangs out of her mouth

by judy
(ky)

I am getting a shih tzu from a breeder and will be bring her home when she is 9 weeks old. She is very tiny and the runt of the litter. The breeder estimates she will only be 3 pounds when grown.

Her little tongue hangs out of her mouth a lot. she is currently 8 weeks old. Is this normal?

Shih Tzu weight and bite characteristics

A healthy full grown Shih Tzu should weigh between 9and 16 lbs as a full grown adult. Teeth nor tongue should generally be visible and bite should be slightly undershot.

9 week old shihtzu

Yes, sometimes that happens & they grow out it. right now, seeing that she is so young, she doesnt have enough teeth to hold it in.

I have a 2 yr old who sometimes does that. She should grow out of it.

I agree with Karen

I had an adult Shih Tzu and an Adult persian cat that both did that. I has nothing to do with whether or not they can or any defect. It is simply a personality trait. They may or may not grow out of it.

Too small

A healthy size shih tzu should at least be 9 lbs. Anything smaller may mean health complications
