Novice Shih Tzu owner question on top knot.

I adopted my 3 year old Shih Tzu from the local animal Shelter earlier this year. I have named him Cloud and he is a wonderful, great hearted companion. I am growing his top hair out and put it in a top knot. Are you supposed to take his top knot out every night? He can’t see when the knot is out, but it seems more comfortable than sleeping with his hair up.

I leave them in for about a week at a time & then remove them, recomb & reapply. Hope this helps

Cut it off and keep him short. He will love you for it. There have been stories of their eyes actually popping out from pulling top knots to tight. Does he not bring you much love? Show him the same and keep him comfortable. We shouldn't dress our dogs up to suit ourselves. Since you are new to Shih Tzus, you will do all the bows and clothes and top knots..... it will leave your system soon and your dog can just be a dog after that period....lol.....they are more comfortable cut down and clean. All the best :)
