His paws suddenly stained a brown color and he does not lick them

In December of 2011 suddenly my 5 yr. old shih Tzu's hair on his paws turned brown. His groomer said it was because he licks his feet; others say the same.

My dog does not lick his feet and never has. I hope you have some possible answers to this problem.

I have an all black shihtzu who has some browning on his feet as well.

In his case, he had a chocolate gene.
ask the breeder if yours does also.

At my shih Tzu age of 5 yrs old I would not think a gene color would start showing. Do you ?
